Grants and Gifts for the Arts
The Siskiyou Arts Council has started a Grants and Gifts program that will provide financial assistance to individuals and enable them to meet their goals in the Arts.
Grants will be awarded (in the $50-$100 range)to individuals that have requested assistance, have demonstrated a need, and have been approved by the Grants & Gifts Committee. The "Grants" piece of this program is self nominating and is intended to assist artists in supplementing the costs for the incidentals that would otherwise not be affordable. For Example, incidentals such as materials, tuition, transportation, and support services.
Gifts will be awarded ($1000) by the Grants & Gifts Committee to individuals who have been nominated to have demonstrated heart and vitality in Siskiyou County and have fostered a spirit of creativity and prosperity through excellence in the arts. The “Gifts” piece of this program is to honor and award artists that have excelled at their art. The nominees will be evaluated and awards will be given twice a year.

Reason for Grant or Gift, if Gift, provide the person's name you are nominating and a description of his/her achievement.
All requests for Grants need to be sent by the 20th of each month in order to be reviewed by the committee and if approved, awarded by the first of the following month. Nominations for Achievement Gifts need to be made in November and May for awards to be evaluated, approved and awarded in January and June.

Mt Shasta City Dance Theater
is looking for Creative and Management Personnel for its original work-in-progress H2O Manifesto, previewing this Fall 2008 in Mt Shasta, CA. H2O Manifesto is Artistic Director (AD) Krista Miller's new work combining dance, theater, and music. Three years in development, H2O Manifesto is entering a busy year of getting on its feet, first in Mt Shasta, and subsequently touring early Summer 2009 to Yreka, Ashland, Redding, and San Francisco. H2O Manifesto is prepared to pay these positions stipends, as independent contractors.
Job Descriptions:
Production Manager - Person must be organized, positive, flexible, and absolutely love theater and its effect on a community. The Production Manager will be responsible for the following activities, under the direction of and in assistance to the Artistic Director:
Publicity: Creating high visibility of production in the community through Press Releases, Articles, Flyering, Emailing, and Organizing public presentations and Interviews.
Keeping AD and production schedule on track: Close coordination with the AD, Liaison between all groups involved in production (Actors, Dancers, Musicians, Facilities, Set, Costume, Technical), Scheduling, Volunteer Management, Making changes as things arise.
Event Planning: Fundraising and Performances
Administrative Management: Word processing, Fielding calls and requests, Emailing, Filing/Office System.
Set Designer – Responsible for designing and constructing the set for H2O Manifesto under the direction of the AD. This includes creative design that brings the AD's vision to life, planning, purchasing materials, constructing (with volunteer assistant), and erecting in the performance space. The set needs to be finished by mid-September, for installation in the performance space the last week of September.
Male Actors, Dancers, Singers – Triple Threats a plus. Performers must have extensive training in at least one of these categories, more is better. Performers must be available: For the entire rehearsal schedule beginning mid-August, and lasting through all performances ending late October. Preferably they will continue with the piece and be available for: Two rehearsal periods during Winter/Spring 2009, and for the six-city June 2009 tour.

California Documentary Project. Grants for documentary film, video, radio and new media that explore and interpret subjects relevant to California's past, present or future. The Guidelines for the October 2008 round of funding are now available. Apply online beginning Sept. 1, 2008. visit www.californiastories.org for more information.
A Room of Her Own Foundation 2009 Literary Gift of Freedom Award Application
A Room Of Her Own Foundation (AROHO) is dedicated to helping women artists achieve the privacy and financial support necessary to pursue their art. As Virginia Woolf recognized in the 1920s, “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write.”
While Woolf spoke of writers, AROHO applies her words to women of various disciplines. The 2009 Literary Gift of Freedom Award will be given to an American woman writer who is a U.S. citizen and will be living in the U.S. during the grant period. Because the award is quite substantial, the application process is extensive. Applications must be postmarked on or before October 31, 2008. Acceptable genres for this grant are poetry, playwriting, creative nonfiction and fiction.

The Arts and Accessibility Technical Assistance Program
The California Arts Council in collaboration with the National Arts and Disability Center at UCLA announces the availability of $500 grants for arts organizations or artists with disabilities. Funds may be used towards the professional development of artists and to enhance the participation of people with disabilities in the arts. Creating Public Value Program 2007-08
The California Arts Council (CAC) has opened the application process for its Creating Public Value (CPV) grant program. Through this program, the CAC seeks to partner with California arts organizations in rural or underserved areas to implement projects that make a positive contribution to communities utilizing tools identified as “The Three R’s”: Relationships (building partnerships), Relevance (to audiences and community), and Return on Investment (making the case to the authorizing environment). Artists in Schools Program 2008-09
The CAC has opened the application process for its Artists in Schools (AIS) grant program. AIS intends to integrate community arts resources—artists and professional art organizations—into a comprehensive, standards-based program that underscores the critical role that the arts play in shaping a student’s overall well-being and academic achievement. New Work-Performing Arts
The Multi-Arts Production (MAP) Fund, a program of Creative Capital supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, provides funding to nonprofit performing and presenting organizations that are undertaking the commissioning, development, or production of new work in the live performing arts. MAP especially seeks to support work that brings insight and vibrant critique to the issue of cultural difference, be that in class, gender, generation, ethnicity, or tradition. ArtMatch in Bend, Oregon seeks to commission a permanent large scale work of art for the roundabout (traffic circle) at NE 15th and Bear Creek Road in Bend, Oregon.

Grant Opportunities
Siskiyou County artists, writers and performers are invited to contact the Siskiyou Arts Council for information about applying for grants. Funding support for the arts is offered by a wide variety of organizations, from private foundations to state and national agencies. Grants often provide money for specific projects or programs, but can also include general support for an individual artist and their work. The Siskiyou Arts Council keeps track of likely grant possibilities and provides information and support to artists and arts groups who choose to extend the effort needed to apply for grants.

Literary Program funding opportunity for Siskiyou County.
Poets & Writers administers the Readings/Workshops program, which provides matching fees to writers who give public readings of their work or teach writing workshops. One of the program goals is to reach underserved populations and/or rural areas where literary programming is often scarce.
Poets & Writers have chosen three counties to focus on during this new fiscal year, which began July 1 2008. The counties are Siskiyou, Del Norte and Placer counties. “The goal is to help jump-start more events in these counties via outreach and education about funds available through the Readings/Workshops program. “

The Investing in Artists grant program is designed to enhance the working lives and creative environment for California artists by funding tools and market strategies that will allow them to create their best work more consistently, and distribute that work more broadly to new audiences. Google Offering Free Adwords Advertising In-Kind Grants from the CAM eNewsletter
Google is offering free Adwords Advertising in-kind grants. Google grants support organizations demonstrating a philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts. Grant recipients can use their award of free AdWords advertising on Google.com to raise awareness and increase traffic to their respective site. There is no deadline to apply. Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Arts Program Announces National Projects Fund from the UCIRA listserve
During a two-year pilot phase, the National Projects Fund will award a total of up to $1 million in grants to support key national projects in the dance, jazz, presenting, and/or theater fields. Grants will range from $60,000 to $200,000 each, and cannot exceed 40 percent of a project’s total cost. National projects engage a broad national constituency, occur once (or periodically) rather than annually, and have the potential to significantly impact a field. Types of projects eligible for support include national research, national public awareness activities, cross-discipline collaborations (including national meetings or conventions), and other national activities.
